Transcription: The second printmaking method is intaglio. Intaglio means to engrave or cut into. It is the exact reverse of relief printing. In intaglio, ink is printed from the areas below the surface of the plate. In traditional etching, the artist uses a metal plate, typically zinc or copper. The plate is covered in a ground to protect its surface. The artist uses an etching needle to draw lines through the ground to expose the metal of the plate.
